Rebekah Goldstein is a San Francisco based artist. Her work explores how memories, personal histories, and the environment intersect to inform our sense of self and our awareness of place in the world. Her work layers many different mediums, including found maps, paper, ink, colored pencil, gouache, acrylic, and resin. These materials allow for multi-step progression – collaging, rearranging, painting over, dripping, and pouring – so that the end result is rich and deeply layered. Her work negotiates between seemingly incongruent visual elements – figures, rocks, text, arrows, – and creates a visual dialogue on how these elements can interact with negative space , line, and color.
Rebekah graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from Sarah Lawrence College. She spent a year in Paris studying figure drawing and painting in an atelier. She has participated in an international artist residency program in the Negev desert. Rebekah has exhibited her work in individual and group shows in New York, Tel Aviv, and regularly exhibits her work in San Francisco. She currently works at her studio at Art Explosion.
